This collection contains fifteen separate groups of meteorological records and includes observations made by William Adair, Lewes, Del. (1773-1775); Samuel Curson, South American waters (1811); Reuben Haines, Germantown, Pa. (1820-1821); Samuel Hazard, on a voyage from Smyrna to Philadelphia (1815), with an account of a "falling star," 26 October 1815; Phineas Pemberton, Philadelphia, Pa. (1748-1778), Maryland (1753-1754), and England; Charles Gotthold Reichel, Nazareth, Pa. (1787-1790); and Samuel Williams, New England (1771, 1773), with an account of a hurricane at Salisbury, Amesbury, and Haverhill, 12 August 1773.

Samuel Williams (1743-1817) was the son of Rev. Warham Williams (1699-1751) of Waltham, Mass. In 1761 he graduated from Harvard College and became minister of Bradford, Mass., until 1779 when he was chosen professor of philosophy at Harvard. Williams was a member of the American Philosophical Society, helped organize the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and served on various state commissions.
